Repair Stipple Ceiling
Prior to starting the project determine the material used for the stippled ceiling.

Before applying a stipple texture repair the ceiling as necessary to get it as flat and smooth as possible. Thin your mud down to a roughly 4 parts mud 1 part water ratio. Work your way out from the center of the patch and feather into the edges keeping in mind it will shrink a ton when it dries.
