Repairing A Textured Ceiling
The one thing i try to do when patching a textured ceiling is to make sure i don t have any long straight lines between the old and new.
Repairing a textured ceiling. Fix large cracks with joint compound before you use the textured patching compound. Step 5 dealing with stains. Repair a drywall ceiling and texture the ceiling with a stipple brush.
Use an oscillating tool or a hand held scraper to scrape the ceiling. Step 3 filling the crack. Press the paper into the spackle surrounding the hole smoothing it flat so it fully adheres to the ceiling.
If the ceiling has water damage apply a coat of primer sealer before you use the patching compound. Cover the primer with. Scrape around the cracks with a putty knife and use a paintbrush to clean off any dust.
Scraping the old texture down helps the drywall knife from skipping across the rough texture which will leave ripples in the drywall compound. That s why you must cover up the floor using a dust sheet before you. If you have a textured ceiling opt instead for a thicker nap roller cover inch to 1 inch nap or spray on the primer using a can of stain blocking primer.
Step 1 preparation. Step 2 sanding. Be sure to wear safety glasses when cleaning the ceiling.
Step 4 sanding the compound. Remove any loose ceiling texture from the old ceiling. Use painters tape to hold the patch in place as the ceiling dries.
